Short description

A custom-curated heirloom volume composed from original letters, emails, postcards, notes, and voice transcriptions, preserving authentic voices and arranging them into a carefully structured, chronologically coherent book.

Full description

The Correspondence Book is a bespoke heirloom project built from existing written and spoken exchanges.

Letters, emails, postcards, handwritten notes, and transcribed recordings are gathered and shaped into a structured volume that reflects the continuity of a relationship or a defined period of life.

The original language, tone, syntax, and rhythm of each contributor are preserved exactly as they were written or spoken. The work lies in:

  • Selection — deciding what belongs
  • Chronological sequencing — determining order
  • Structural framing — clarifying transitions between time periods
  • Light contextual notes where needed for clarity

Materials that were created across years, sometimes across formats, are arranged into a reading experience that feels intentional rather than fragmented.

Nothing is modernized.

Nothing is stylistically adjusted.

Grammar, tone, and emotional texture remain intact.

Where context is necessary, it is introduced discreetly through short framing passages that situate the exchange without interfering with the original voice.

The result is a composed archival volume that documents connection across time — between two people, within a family, across distance, or through a formative period of life — translated into a durable, illustrated format designed to endure.

Process overview

The process begins with a private listening conversation to establish:

  • The nature of the relationship
  • The time span of the correspondence
  • The desired scope of inclusion
  • Any material that must remain private

You are then guided through securely sharing:

  • Scanned handwritten letters
  • Emails in digital format
  • Postcards and notes
  • Audio recordings for transcription
  • Optional archival photographs

From this material, the atelier:

  • Catalogues and dates the material
  • Establishes a chronological or thematic structure
  • Selects material based on narrative coherence rather than volume
  • Drafts a structured table of contents
  • Integrates light contextual framing where required

Illustration develops alongside layout, not as decoration, but as spatial rhythm. Visual elements may include restrained graphic motifs, archival-sensitive page design, and quiet integration of photographs where appropriate.

We review the structured draft for accuracy and completeness before final production.

Each Correspondence Book is:

  • Composed exclusively from original source material
  • Faithful to authentic voices without stylistic alteration
  • Structured chronologically or thematically for clarity
  • Edited only for formatting consistency, not language modification
  • Illustrated with restrained art direction that supports archival integrity
  • Designed as a long-term personal record
